Richland Two educator helps students lay the groundwork for a successful future
COLUMBIA, S.C. (September 2, 2025) – South Carolina Treasurer Curtis Loftis has recognized Anya Bryant of Richland Two School District’s Jackson Creek Elementary School as the South Carolina Financial Literacy Master Teacher Program’s Educator of the Month for September.
"The time and energy Ms. Bryant invests in her classroom serves as a valuable benefit to her young students," remarked State Treasurer Loftis. While currently teaching early childhood education, Ms. Bryant routinely navigates the financial literacy hurdles confronting young children. “Teaching them to put needs ahead of wants is an essential, lifelong lesson, and I deeply appreciate her efforts.”
Entering her sixth year of teaching at the early childhood level, Ms. Bryant is deeply passionate about motivating students. She has a bachelor’s from Francis Marion University and a master’s in teaching ESOL from the University of South Carolina. Ms. Bryant has extensive experience within Richland School District Two—including Orton-Gillingham training, Open Court curriculum planning, and tutoring through Summer SOAR and the Be Great Academy. Driven by her family's core belief that "knowledge is power," Ms. Bryant is committed to sharing her expanding expertise with fellow educators across her school, district, and state.
“Teaching financial literacy helps people practice better money management, avoid common financial hazards, and make long-term goals and plans so they can lay the groundwork for a more successful and self-sufficient future,” Bryant said. “By bringing financial literacy to elementary schools, we can help kids understand basic money concepts at a younger age. This gives them the knowledge and experience they need to manage savings, credit, and other financial matters before they become adults.”
The South Carolina Financial Literacy Master Teacher Program provides incentives to K-12 teachers who are experts in financial literacy and have a desire to teach professional development workshops to other educators in their schools and districts. Through the program, participating teachers have access to specialized training and financial literacy curriculum resources that better enable them to promote financial literacy education in K-12 schools.
Sponsored by Future Scholar, South Carolina’s 529 College Savings Plan, and in partnership with SC Economics, this statewide financial literacy initiative aims to increase teacher support and involvement in incorporating personal finance education into the curriculum.
